Abbigail Buck: A few of my freshman year favorites | Women's Basketball

abbi_buck_158_wb1.jpgMy decision to come to Trevecca has rewarded me with several memories in just my first year. From the very beginning of Welcome Week, through my first Trevecca Homecoming basketball game in the middle of the semester and therapy dogs during finals, I have continued to make memories all semester long. My favorite, lasting memories from my first semester are from Homecoming and one of the Welcome Week events called Silent Disco.

Silent Disco was a dance party that took place during Welcome Week. Everyone that attends is given a pair of headphones as they walk through the door. The headphones have three separate stations that play country, pop and oldies music and you can change between stations at any point. Each station is represented by a different color that is displayed on the headphones. The room is set up for a typical dance with neon colors and strobe lights, but the party starts as soon as you put on your headphones. After you have your headphones on you can sing and dance like no one is watching or listening. The headphones isolate everyone to their own private dance party in a room full of individual dance parties. One of my favorite moments was taking off my headphones and listening to everyone in the room singing different songs as loud and off key as they can. The Silent Disco is a lasting memory from my first week at Trevecca.

My second favorite memory from my first semester was Homecoming weekend. The day started with an annual 5K run called the Challenge. I did not participate in the 5K because it was a game day, but I did cheer on all those that got up early to run around campus. The next big event that day was the Homecoming Parade. Each of the homemade floats was amazing, and the parade even featured a marching band from Gallatin High School. The band director is a Trevecca alumnus, and the band not only marched in the parade but also played as a pep band during the basketball games. After the parade we played our basketball games, which was my favorite part of the day. The Trojan Fieldhouse was completely packed. I loved that I was able to play in front of an energetic crowd that was fully invested in the game. The crowd and the environment made our win even better.

I have made so many more memories here at Trevecca, and those are my top two from my first semester. I know that the memories that I’m making will be some of the best memories of my life. I can’t wait to continue to make more throughout the rest of my time here at Trevecca.
