The Divine Detour

Imagine a young man blessed with many God-given talents, one of which was the gift of music. He felt the allure of the music, but this music scene pulled him from what he was taught as a young child into a world far away from the Divine Musician. Imagine that young man continuing in that scene until adulthood. Imagine a life filled with sad consequences and wandering.

Now imagine that same young man on that pointless road to nowhere encountering a Divine Detour. The Divine Detour led him to a place where people cared about him and showed it on a daily basis. This place is where his “folk theology” is replaced by the “line on line, precept on precept” teaching of the Divine Musician’s Lead Book.

That young man is a family member of mine and that place of Divine Detour is Trevecca Nazarene University, a Christian university in the heart of Nashville.

I want to remind you that, just like this young man, we all can have a Divine Detour. When we see the Christ child, we will never be the same again – and like the three Kings from afar, we will never return to where we were. The Divine Musician’s music will draw us to Him and strings that were broken will vibrate once more.

On behalf of the Trevecca alumni from around the word and the alumni board, I wish you a Divine Detour Christmas and a blessed New Year!

May all who come behind us find us faithful.
