Trevecca Board of Trustees extend President Boone’s contract
Today, the board of trustees of Trevecca Nazarene University voted unanimously to renew President Dan Boone’s contract for a four-year term. Boone was inaugurated as Trevecca’s eleventh president on Nov. 4, 2005, but joined the University in June of that year.
Boone has completed three terms as Trevecca’s president, and this vote extends his contract through 2021.
Dr. Dwight Gunter, chairman of the Trevecca board of trustees and pastor of Trevecca Community Church, said the decision is a reflection of Boone’s leadership.
“I’m delighted Dr. Boone has been reaffirmed as president of Trevecca Nazarene University by our board of trustees,” Gunter said. “His creative leadership, flowing from his passion for the kingdom of Christ, has resulted in great development and effectiveness in regards to the mission of the University. The board of trustees is optimistic over the continued success of Trevecca well into the future.”
In his inaugural address more than a decade ago, Boone declared that Trevecca exists “to be useful to the purposes of God in this present age.”
“Trevecca graduates will go into the world, filled with the Spirit of God, rooted in the wisdom of our ancestors, mentored by caring professors, sustained by lifelong friendships and skilled in specific practices,” Boone said during his inauguration.“We will do our work in the name of Jesus, the one who makes all things new.”
During the 12 years of Boone’s presidency, total enrollment at Trevecca has grown by 47 percent. This year, the University became the fastest growing university in Middle Tennessee, according to data obtained by the Nashville Business Journal. Undergraduate enrollment numbers have continued to rise during Boone’s presidency, shattering the all-time record each fall for three consecutive years, 2014-2016.
Under Boone’s tenure, the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies has continued to add programs, launched online classes and broken adult studies and graduate student enrollment records of its own.
As president, Boone has spearheaded numerous construction and renovation projects across campus, including renovations of the McClurkan Building and the Bud Robinson Building and the construction of the Reed Memorial Tower and Hardy Alumni Center. The University named the Millard Reed School of Theology and Christian Ministry and the Gerald Skinner School of Business and Technology and created the J.V. Morsch Center for Social Justice during Boone’s presidency
Other presidential milestones include the addition of the Boone Business Building and Convocation Center, the launch of a second doctoral degree program, creation of the School of Music and Worship Arts, and the recently completed construction of the Jackson Center for Music and Worship Arts. Boone was instrumental in the transition from NAIA athletics to competing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II.
Currently, Boone is leading Trevecca during the largest giving campaign in University history, the $75 million “Making Great Stories Possible” comprehensive campaign.
