The Trevecca Nazarene University Board of Trustees has voted to extend the contract of Dr. Dan Boone, lengthening his term as president by four years. The board also honored the longtime administrator by establishing the Dan and Denise Boone Endowment Scholarship, to be awarded annually to a Trevecca student of the couple’s choosing.

Boone has served as Trevecca’s president since 2005. During his tenure, he has overseen tremendous growth in the school’s enrollment, degree programs and facilities. Combined undergraduate and graduate enrollment has increased by more than 85 percent, including a record enrollment in fall 2024 and a record spring enrollment to begin 2025. Progress in academics has included the addition of 57 new degree programs and the conferral of more than 15,000 degrees. His administration has initiated and overseen campus improvements valued at more than $135 million, including the recent construction of a health sciences building and a new residence hall.

“Dan Boone has worked faithfully and tirelessly over the past two decades to make Trevecca a place where servant leaders learn to change the world in their own ways,” Board of Trustees Chairman Brian Wilson said. “Every day he embodies the values that any Christian university hopes to instill in its graduates, and we are fortunate that Trevecca can continue to move forward under his caring, thoughtful leadership. We’re grateful to Dan and Denise for their service to the University and all its constituents.”

Boone earned a bachelor’s degree in religion from Trevecca in 1974. He has also earned a master’s in divinity from the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, and a doctorate in ministry from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago.

Prior to joining Trevecca, Boone had pastored Nazarene churches for more than 36 years. His service in ministry began in his early teens and included 14 years as senior pastor at College Church of the Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Ill., just before his tenure began at Trevecca.  He also previously pastored Trevecca Community Church located on Trevecca’s campus.

A member of the board of directors of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, Boone recently completed a term as the CCCU board chairman. He served on the Church of the Nazarene Court of Appeals from 2005-2017, is an alumnus of Leadership Nashville, and has chaired the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association; the Great Midwest Athletic Conference President’s Council; and ReThink Forward, Tennessee’s first state-approved charter school. Boone has also authored more than 20 faith-based books and curriculum for two modular study courses.
