Trevecca announces the Center for Student Development
Trevecca students will have one more name to learn when they return to campus later this week: the Center for Student Development.
The newly created Center for Student Development combines the work of the former Center for Leadership, Calling and Service, Office of the Chaplain, student services and residential life, among others.
Campus officials say consolidating these offices and departments into one campus unit will streamline their work and better benefit students.
“By combining the work of academic affairs and student services under one leader, we’re now able to better consider the entire student experience, both inside and outside the classroom,” said Dr. Tom Middendorf, associate provost and dean of academic and student affairs, who will provide oversight and direction to the new campus unit. “This realignment will allow us to find better balance for students while maintaining our philosophy of student success.”
Jessica Dykes, Trevecca’s new associate vice president and dean of student development will lead the Center for Student Development.
“At Trevecca, we’re dedicated to the holistic development of our students—developing them spiritually, academically, physically and socially,” Dykes said. “This Is a beautiful marriage of student development and our other student services available on campus.”
Dykes, a two-time Trevecca graduate, returned to the University on Aug. 1, filling the vacancy left by Dr. Steve Harris’ retirement on June 30.
Most faculty and staff offices associated with the Center for Student Development have been relocated to the Bud Robinson Building, giving students one central location to visit for all student development needs.
“All student development services will be housed in one building,” Dykes said. “This will have a positive impact on students and increase their access to these services. It simply breaks down barriers and makes it easier for students to be more aware of the opportunities that are available to them.”
