“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15).
This verse came to mind after Coach Kelsey told the team that we were going to serve in Colombia over spring break. I knew I wanted to go and began praying that it be would possible. I have never gone on a mission trip before but have been greatly encouraged from hearing others’ past experiences of how God has used them during their time of serving.
One reason that our team is excited to go on this trip is the opportunity to help the COSDECOL ministry serve the children in Medellín through the game of soccer. This allows us to share the love of Christ with others while doing something we are all passionate about.
We are also super pumped to be in the environment and serving in any way needed while we stay at the facility. Just like most areas in the world, there is a great need for the people in Colombia to hear the word of God. The body of Christ is called to make disciples wherever we are. This is not always going to seem easy or comfortable, yet we are doing it for the kingdom of God.
Initially when I heard we would be traveling to Colombia the fear of safety flooded my mind. Where would be we staying? Would we be safe to travel on the streets? How would we effectively communicate? I know I am going to have to step out of my comfort zone by going into a different country, speaking another language and experiencing a new culture, yet I am excited for this experience. I cannot wait to see the ways in which the Lord works in the Colombian community as well as our team.
My prayer for everyone involved on this trip is that they allow God to soften their hearts and encounter growth to further his kingdom. I have faith in knowing the Lord will lead us when we are serving as his hands and feet. Romans 10:15 says, “How are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news.’”
