Class of 2025 Reflections: Emilie Beckner

| Alumni

Emilie Beckner headshotOver the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of this deeply supportive and Christ-centered community. It is an honor to reflect on the profound impact that so many members of our faculty and staff have had on my journey, both academically and spiritually.

I entered Trevecca as a music education major and was immediately welcomed into the close-knit community of the School of Music. One of the first people I met was Dr. David Diehl, who became both my advisor and mentor. His influence has shaped not only my development as a musician, but also my walk with Christ. I’ve witnessed his faithful prayer for students—music majors and beyond—and have been deeply impacted by his spiritual leadership.

I’m also incredibly grateful for Mrs. Traci Myatt, our department accompanist, whose kindness and professionalism have made her a joy to work with. She has consistently encouraged me as both a musician and a person. Dr. Lee Harland, who joined the faculty during my sophomore year, has been a true friend and mentor, nurturing my love for music and my faith in meaningful ways. And Professor Jeff Cox, who I studied under that same year, has been instrumental in shaping my character and musicianship. I affectionately think of him as my “music dad,” someone who has guided me with patience, integrity and care. I also think of Susan Sims and Breanna Berry in the School of Music office, who have offered encouragement and mentorship through both seasons of hardship and celebration. Their presence has been a steady and uplifting part of my time here.

Throughout my time at Trevecca, I’ve also had the opportunity to serve as a student worker in Waggoner Library and as a summer RA in University Commons. The librarians at Waggoner have been a constant source of support, fostering meaningful relationships that have made a lasting impact on me. Their intentional care and strength have created a space that feels both welcoming and enriching, as both a student and employee, especially that of Dr. Speer and Katie O’Connell. I also had the privilege of working alongside Jeremy Bauer, both during my time as an RA and through Trevecca Community Church, where I watch his children, Junie and Josiah. Jeremy leads with humility, consistency and a servant’s heart—qualities that have shaped my understanding of leadership and service in powerful ways.

I also want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work of our custodial and Plant Operations staff. These teams work faithfully and often without recognition to make our campus a beautiful, functional and welcoming place to live and learn. Their work is not just practical—it’s deeply meaningful, and it speaks volumes about the kind of community we are. I’m thankful for the way they uphold the spirit of Trevecca through their quiet faithfulness and
constant support.

I would be remiss not to acknowledge the tireless work of Blake Houchin, and the entire AV and IT teams. Their contributions often happen behind the scenes, but their impact is felt across every corner of campus. Their excellence, adaptability and servant-hearted leadership have made a lasting impression on me, and I am deeply grateful for their presence in this community. Individuals like them—and so many others—embody the very heart of Trevecca: a commitment to academic excellence, intentional mentorship and Christlike service. I am profoundly thankful to have been shaped by their influence, and I carry with me a deep sense of gratitude for those who have walked alongside me during these formative years.
