Trevecca announces new master’s degree in healthcare leadership and innovation

As the healthcare industry continues to grow, Trevecca’s Skinner School of Business and Technology is ready to shape innovative industry leaders through a new master’s program set to begin in February 2018.

The Master’s of Science in Healthcare Leadership and Innovation, offered entirely online, is an 11-course, 33-credit hour program designed to provide students with the necessary training to become strategic leaders in a variety of healthcare occupations.

Brandee Norris, program director and associate professor of healthcare administration and management, says the program will emphasis leadership development as well as healthcare innovation strategies, making it beneficial to professionals looking to advance and grow as leaders in the healthcare industry.

“Students will find value in this program through discovery of their leadership style, increasing levels of competencies to create innovative quality initiatives to effectively manage people, increase operational efficiency, and attain competitive advantages within the healthcare industry,” she said.

Norris and other leaders at Trevecca created the program after watching the explosive growth within the healthcare industry. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, healthcare occupations are expected to grow by 19 percent by 2024, adding more than two million jobs to the economy.

In recent years, Nashville has become a hub for the healthcare industry, generating more than $84 billion in revenue internationally and adding more than 250, 000 jobs to the local economy annually.

In light of this, Norris and others realized that master’s level training was imperative to give graduates a competitive advantage in the industry, as well as better prepare them to make innovative, strategic decisions that are necessary to keep healthcare cost-effective and patient-centered.

“Leaders in healthcare are faced with numerous challenges of maintaining viable operations with limited resources,” Norris said. “So, they must innovatively strategize to develop and execute processes that meet demands of the patient, comply with all levels of regulatory standards and produce desirable outcomes in a cost-efficient manner. That’s where this program will most benefit our graduates.”

Current healthcare professionals and faculty member from Trevecca’s business school will teach in the program, which can be completed in 18 months, providing real-world experience and expertise. Students will graduate with the skills to analyze current healthcare policy as well as information privacy and security management, while also learning to assess and implement innovative technologies and strategies.
