Trevecca Announces New Fully Online Master’s In Teaching Degree

Trevecca Nazarene University has added a fully online option for its Master of Arts in teaching (MAT) degree program, which adds a new level of convenience for professionals from other fields who want to transition into education.

Offered through Trevecca’s School of Education, the program offers an endorsement in either elementary education (K-5) or secondary education (6-12). It’s available to anyone with a bachelor’s degree seeking to become a teacher.

The online MAT makes education coursework more accessible for aspiring educators. Trevecca’s program, which launched its first cohort in January, offers a job-embedded pathway, allowing students to begin working as teachers while completing the requirements for their license.

The online degree program at Trevecca includes three built-in synchronous sessions per class so students can meet and talk with their professors and classmates. “Allowing in-person virtual attendance can help build a sense of rapport and community for our students,” said Dr. Andrew Burnham, Trevecca’s MAT program director. “We want to ensure every student at Trevecca has the support they need to be successful in their endeavors and answer their calling.”

Graduates of the program become eligible for a teacher licensure in the state of Tennessee, making the MAT a cost-efficient way to help address the growing need for qualified teachers across the state. Students in the program are equipped with traditional classroom strategies for effective lesson planning and delivery, student support and problem solving.

Trevecca’s Master of Arts in teaching program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Coursework can take between 18 and 24 months to complete.
