Music City Colloquy hosts Christian musician and author Andrew Peterson

Christian musician and author Andrew Peterson will visit campus tomorrow, Nov. 13. Peterson will speak in chapel and participate in the next installment of the School of Music and Worship Art’s Music City Colloquy series.

John J. Thompson, associate dean of the School of Music and Worship Arts, expects the conversation to center around creativity, community and cultivating a career at the intersection of faith, art and commerce. Thompson says he hopes students come prepared to learn from Peterson and other Music Colloquy guests.

“[These events] tackle industry-related things,” Thompson said. “We bring panels, songwriters and artists. We never bring someone who isn’t high value.”

Thompson selected Peterson as a Music City Colloquy guest specifically for his knowledge in all of these areas. Thompson has closely followed Peterson’s career and personally speaks on everything that Peterson has accomplished.

“Peterson comes with artist expertise… with fantastic success as an independent artist,” Thompson said.

Peterson is an acclaimed singer-songwriter with several Dove Award nominations. His most recent album release, Resurrection Letters Vol. 1, released from Centricity Music in early 2018, became a Billboard Top 5 Americana/Folk chart hit while being called a “masterpiece” by CCM Magazine.

In addition, Peterson is also an award-winning author, named a 2009 Christie Award winner for young adult fiction for North! Or Be Eaten and a 2015 Clive Staples Award for Imaginative Fiction for The Warden and The Wolf King.

Along with booking Peterson, Thompson has booked artists such as Jenny & Tyler, Lauren Daigle and Hunter Hayes for past Music City Colloquy events—with more planned for the future.

“There are several of these [events] each semester, but each one is unique,” Thompson said. “Colloquies are good for people to connect with others in these fields.”

Andrew Peterson will be performing in chapel Nov. 13, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. followed with a performance and Q&A in Zelma Waggoner Performance Hall in the Jackson Center for Music and Worship Arts.
