Lead singer of Tenth Avenue North to visit campus

Tenth Avenue North frontman Mike Donehey will visit Trevecca Nazarene University on September 13. While on campus, the singer-songwriter will speak in chapel and participate in a discussion with students and faculty as part of the Music City Colloquies series.

“Mike, with his band Tenth Avenue North, found a way to craft a career in a very challenging marketplace,” said John J. Thompson, associate dean of Trevecca’s School of Music and Worship Arts. “The band’s new album, Followers, comes out soon, and the themes it covers are absolutely critical. We need to hear from artists like him.”

Thompson facilitates the Music City Colloquy events, a speakers’ series organized through the School of Music and Worship Arts. The series began last year and has included Christian artists such as Derek Webb, Dan Haseltine and others. More of a conversation than a panel discussion, the colloquies are free and open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to submit and ask questions.

According to Thompson, the Music City Colloquy series isn’t just geared toward musicians, either. The series also seeks to provide inspiration and encouragement to people of faith involved in various creative endeavors.

“These colloquies will feature high-level conversations about a wide range of issues that any creative, faith-driven person is likely to face,” Thompson said. “I look forward to seeing how they might impact the Trevecca creative community.”

Thompson currently plans to organize one large-scale Music City Colloquy event each semester, with smaller, more niche-oriented colloquies sprinkled throughout. These events will feature a wide-range of experts, ranging from Christians working in film and TV to managers and A&R representatives and Christian radio professionals.

“I’m hoping these events draw people from the creative community beyond the campus,” Thompson said. “We are blessed to be a part of a vibrant creative community here in Nashville, and I believe our students have an important role to play.”

Donehey will speak in chapel at 9:30 a.m. on September 13, with the Music City Colloquy discussion immediately following at 10:30 a.m. Both events will be held in the Boone Convocation Center. For more information, visit our website calendar.
