Why We Care About MBA Women

Posted by Rick Mann, Ph.D. on Aug 10, 2017 2:29:12 PM

I was recently contacted by the leadership of the National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA) concerning developing a student chapter at Trevecca. I immediately said yes and then backed up and said that I needed to talk with our Skinner School of Business and Technology Dean, Jim Hiatt. He was also supportive and so we set up a meeting with the two senior leaders of NAWMBA.

If you are familiar with the history of MBA programs, you might know that Harvard started the first program over a hundred years ago in 1908. For decades, MBA students were almost exclusively white, male, and affluent. Thankfully, today that has changed. Many programs like Trevecca’s have more women students than men. For many women, earning an MBA degree is an important step in advancing their futures.

Yes, we are forming a NAWMBA chapter at Trevecca. Our goal for this chapter is to provide our women students with more opportunities to network, learn, serve, and to grow. If you would like to help out with this new endeavor, feel free to contact me at rmann@trevecca.edu as we gather a group of women in the coming months.  Let me know if you have any questions or concerns on this.
