Student Diaries: Literally on my shoulder

On May 26, 2016, I underwent shoulder surgery to fix the labrum in my right shoulder. Nine months later, I am going on a trip to Israel to film a documentary -- a documentary in which one of my primary roles will be holding either a reflector or diffuser over whoever is in front of the camera — a job that I could not have done only six months ago.

God’s healing, channeled through wonderful physical therapists and determination, has made me capable of doing my job as well as anybody who hasn’t had shoulder surgery. That’s not to say my arms won’t get tired. After some practicing setup, shooting, and tearing down, I know my arms will be dead by the time we get back. Even so, I’m looking forward to this trip.

I’m looking forward to, not just seeing the places in the Bible, but walking through them -- standing on the banks of the Dead Sea, Jordan River, and on the Mount of Beatitudes. I’m looking forward to experiencing God from a new perspective -- to visualizing, when I get home, what the Garden of Gethsemane ACTUALLY LOOKED LIKE. There are so many amazing experiences I know we’re going to have in Israel. There will be some not so great experiences too, I’m sure, but I can’t wait to see the Promised Land for myself. A prospect that would not be possible without God’s healing hand — literally — on my shoulder.
