Day two was one of the busiest days we had planned on the trip. After a few last minute changes, it became even busier than we expected. We went to five different locations in one day and got a lot of filming done.
Our journey began just outside our hotel on the Sea of Galilee. We took a boat ride onto the water where our Lord calmed the seas and walked on water. Our A crew recorded some interviews while B team collected some awesome b-roll on the water.
Our next stop was to the Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus gave the sermon on the mount. We overlooked the valley full of wild mustard and grain and recorded a huge chunk of footage for the day. We then sat around our tour guide, David Sparks, and listened to a small section of the sermon on the mount and took some time to reflect before moving on.
We stopped for lunch at St. Peter's Fish where several students ate a whole freshly caught and cooked fish (including the eyeballs). We then pressed on to the spot where Jesus fed the 5,000 with only five loaves of bread and two fish, where a church has now be erected. We spent only a short time there as we had more to get to, but had time to sit in the church and reflect and pray together.
We went on to Capernaum, which was the town where much of Jesus’ ministry took place. It is uninhabitable now and is mostly ruins. We had the chance to stand in the synagogue which was erected on top of the original synagogue that Jesus taught in. We also had a chance to look inside the ruins of what used to be Simon Peter’s house — where Jesus would have stayed during his time there. We only shot b-roll here and all took some time to breath in the air that Jesus once breathed and to walk along the seashore where Jesus recruited his disciples.
Our final stop of the day was the Jordan River, where Jesus was baptized. We shot our final scenes of the day here during “golden hour,” the hour just before the sun sets. Six of our students also took the opportunity to renew their baptisms in the Jordan by being fully submerged in the water. Many others had some of the waters sprinkled on their head. It was the perfect way to end such a full day of following the path of Jesus’ ministry.
