Something to Think About - from Don Hastings

Posted by Trevecca News on Sep 17, 2014 9:32:36 AM

When I was a student at Trevecca, there was a program on the radio sponsored by a local company—a funeral home, I believe—called “Something to Think About.” I always listened because of the catchy title, so today, I thought I’d borrow it myself.

Something to Think About:

  1. Among the “50 Most Affordable Christian Colleges in the U.S.,” Trevecca Nazarene University was recently listed as #13. (Full list here.)
  2. Trevecca is ranked #15 among the fastest growing universities with doctoral programs. It’s nice when others recognize Trevecca’s attempt to make it affordable while also being academically strong.
  3. As alumni, all of us know that there is value at Trevecca that cannot be quantified.
  4. This year, Trevecca has set new enrollment records for both incoming freshmen and total traditional undergraduate students. (More here.)
  5. Parents will sacrifice, save money, and be inconvenienced to send their elementary children to a faith-based school through high school, but get this…
  6. 96% of evangelical Christians never think about sending their children to a Christian university.

The sea of smiles - from Mike Blankenship

Posted by Trevecca News on May 20, 2014 8:24:25 AM

I will never forget that “sea of smiles” when thousands gathered in Trevecca’s Quad for the 2014 Trevecca Commencement on May 3.

As I stood in line with administrators, faculty, trustees, and graduates, waiting for the signal to start the processional for this special day’s events, I noticed that everyone around was smiling.

A positive spirit characterized the spring meeting of the Trevecca Board of Trustees, and the Board’s actions are very exciting to me because they are indications of incredible opportunities for Trevecca’s future.

1. Trustees unanimously approved the nomination of alumna Holly Whitby as the new dean of enrollment management. Holly has a deep history with Trevecca and a passion for selling Trevecca to prospective students.

The Funeral of Ruth Boone

Posted by Dan Boone on Sep 25, 2013 3:33:38 PM

We gather in moments like these to remember and rehearse what we most
deeply believe. In the face of death, we become soberly serious about life.
On casual days we make decisions based on our most deeply held beliefs,
and over time, we take the form of those beliefs and actions. Death seems to
be that clarifying moment when it becomes apparent whether our beliefs
were about convenience or conviction. The death of my Mother punctuates
this revelation.
When Christians talk about deeply held beliefs, it is possible that we are
talking about a list of doctrines. I prefer to think that we are talking about the
story we find ourselves living out. For us, that story is succinctly captured in
The Apostle’s Creed, one of the oldest statements of our faith.

Remembering Jim Foglesong

Posted by Trevecca News on Jul 15, 2013 2:15:03 PM

Trevecca lost a beloved former professor when Jim Foglesong, the founding director of Trevecca’s Music Business Program, died Tuesday, July 9. Foglesong is known around the world as a Country Music Hall of Famer and groundbreaking music executive who signed Garth Brooks, George Strait, The Oak Ridge Boys and others. Below are just a few of the words shared on Facebook by the Trevecca community in remembrance of Jim.

Tammi Weed
I owe so much to James S. Foglesong. At first he was my professor, then he became my mentor and after I left Trevecca Nazarene University, he became my dear friend. He was the one who convinced my parents that Nashville was the place for me to be... He got me my first job in the music business and taught me much of what I know today. I'm deeply saddened by our loss but will be forever grateful to him and forever inspired by his legacy. Professor Foglesong, the honor was all mine...
