With experience in higher education and choral arts, Dr. Tim Sharp is well prepared to serve as the program director for Trevecca’s Center for Community Arts Innovation. Based in Trevecca’s School of Music and Worship Arts, the center offers workshops and boot camps entirely online and is specifically designed for educators and those working in the community arts field. Sharp, who most recently was the Executive Director of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), also previously served as the dean of fine arts at Rhodes College in Memphis, and earlier, as the director of choral activities at Belmont University.

Five Questions with Dr. Nyk Reed

A member of Trevecca’s faculty since 2013, Dr. Nyk Reed holds a bachelor’s in biology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where he was first introduced to genetics and developmental biology. He earned his doctorate at Meharry Medical College in 2010, completing his dissertation under the guidance of Douglas Mortlock in Vanderbilt’s Center for Human Genetics. Later, while working as a  postdoctoral fellow in Thomas Aune’s lab at Vanderbilt University, Reed began teaching life science at Trevecca.

5 Questions with Dr. Penney Carden

Dr. Penney Carden says one of the highlights of her teaching career has been to teach overseas. “On two different occasions I was asked to teach for a month in Beijing, China,” she said. “It was life-changing for me and gave me a whole new outlook on teaching English language learners.” A long time faculty member in Trevecca’s School of Education, Carden currently serves as the school’s coordinator of curriculum, assessment, and instruction and the program director for Trevecca’s English as a second language programs and one of the University’s newest programs, the Master of Education in curriculum and online teaching.

Five Questions with Dr. Kathy Mowry

Kathy Mowry (’85), who holds the J.B. Elizer Chair of Christian Ministry in Trevecca’s Millard Reed School of Theology and Christian Ministry, has been a member of the faculty at her alma mater since 2007. In addition to her bachelor’s degree from Trevecca, Mowry has earned master’s degrees—one from Wheaton Graduate School, the other from Fuller Theological Seminary—and a doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary. An ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, Mowry teaches classes in Christian education and intercultural studies at Trevecca, and also serves as the director of Trevecca’s new master’s program in church and community.

Five Questions with Sarah Johnson

For Sarah Johnson, Trevecca is home. After beginning her Trevecca career in 1999 as a resident director, Johnson has served the University in a variety of roles ever since. She currently serves as the program director for Trevecca’s Bachelor of Arts in psychology program. As the program director, Johnson oversees the fully online program to make sure students receive excellent education through strong curriculum and rich classroom experiences.

With experience in higher education and criminal justice, Dr. Craig Bishop is well prepared to serve as the program director for one of Trevecca’s newest degrees, the Bachelor of Science in criminal justice. Offered through Trevecca’s School of Graduate and Continuing Studies, the program is offered entirely online and specifically designed for students who are working full-time and need to complete their degrees to work or advance in the field. Bishop, who spent nearly 20 years teaching criminal justice at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, has spent much of his career working in probation, parole and law enforcement.

Five Questions with Graham Hillard

As an associate professor of English, Graham Hillard nurtures budding writers in creative writing, contemporary literature and composition at Trevecca. He is the founding editor of Trevecca’s national literary quarterly, The Cumberland River Review. In addition, Hillard has written for The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Oxford American, The Weekly Standard and other magazines. He has contributed poetry and fiction to The Believer, Image, Notre Dame Review and numerous other journals.

Five Questions with Dr. Aaron Hall

A member of Trevecca’s faculty since 2017, Dr. Aaron Hall serves as an assistant professor of exercise science in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science. A licensed physical therapist, Hall holds a Bachelor of Science from Lipscomb University and a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. Prior to joining the Trevecca faculty, Hall spent six years serving as the clinical director for an outpatient physical therapy clinic that specialized in treating shoulder and knee patients. Hall is a certified post-injury running coach, running coach, personal trainer and holds a Functional Movement Screen Level 1 certification.

As an accountant, professor and former youth minister, Dr. Phil Rickard brings a wide range of experience and knowledge to bear as a program director and faculty member at Trevecca. Rickard, who has earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in business administration, serves as the program director for one of Trevecca’s newest graduate programs, the Master of Public Administration. With decades of experience in finance and accounting, Rickard also serves as the assistant director of Trevecca’s MBA program and a professor in the Skinner School of Business and Technology.
