Nashville Predators Head Trainer Visits Trevecca Exercise Science Class

Dr. Kevin Morley, head athletic trainer for the NHL’s Nashville Predators, visited Trevecca’s Introduction to Exercise Science class in early September to share career insights and real-world perspective with students preparing for careers in health and human performance.

Hosted by Dr. Aaron Hall in the school’s Greathouse Science Building, the guest lecture allowed freshmen in exercise science to learn about Morley’s academic journey and professional experience–from his time with the NHL’s New Jersey Devils to his work with the X Games and Red Bull Sports. Morley holds a doctorate in athletic training and has spent more than 17 years working in the NHL and collegiate athletics.

“It was a chance for students to hear what an ATC [Certified Athletic Trainer] does and feel empowered if they’re called to pursue that path,” Hall said.

“He gave great advice on how to make our resumes for grad schools or jobs stand out more,” said Cadence Manno, an exercise science student. “I really enjoyed meeting him and found it super helpful looking into the athletic training field.”

Trevor Johnson, another student in the class, had a similar takeaway. “Dr. Morley taught us the importance of setting ourselves apart for job applications and being an intentional and observant learner,” he said. “From Dr. Morley's visit, I am better able to see what a career in athletic training could hold.”

Hall emphasized the value of outside voices in the classroom. “It’s important for students to hear from clinicians currently working in the field,” he said. “These moments can shed light on the job, highlight the importance of mentorship and networking and even open doors for shadowing or internship opportunities.”

Morley’s presentation was a special opportunity for students who’ve just begun their college journeys and are hoping to find or solidify their academic path.
