If Education is Your Passion, an Online Teaching Degree May Be the Best Fit For Your Future

The demand for teachers is at an all-time high, and if you have any bachelor’s degree and are passionate about educating the next generation (regardless of your past or current career field), an online Master of Arts in teaching (MAT) may be the right choice for you.

Historically, the MAT has been offered around the country as an in-person or hybrid program. Trevecca is one of a few schools in Middle Tennessee that gives future teachers and job-embedded educators the chance to complete their teaching degree online while still benefiting from hands-on experience and the support of faculty and peers.

The Advantages of an Online MAT

For teachers with full schedules, both in and out of the classroom, an online degree offers significant benefits. Online students have the same opportunities as those who receive in-person instruction, applying their learning as they student-teach at local schools. For job-embedded candidates–those who have already secured a teaching position–new concepts and strategies can be implemented immediately, turning theory into practice.

With the online MAT, a portion of weekly classes are attended virtually with your cohort, while other classes allow for asynchronous learning that can be completed at your convenience. In both cases, all coursework is online. As you navigate work, family and other commitments, you will be able to stay on top of your coursework without compromising the responsibilities that matter most.

What Makes Trevecca’s Online Teaching Degree Unique?

Trevecca offers both fully online and hybrid options for the MAT program, both designed to help prospective teachers pursue licensure in elementary (K-5) or secondary (6-12) education.

Through long-standing partnerships with local elementary and secondary schools, Trevecca provides future educators with essential field experience that involves collaborating and teaching in real classroom settings. Trevecca alumni serve students across the state as teachers and administrators.

A Christian university, Trevecca’s educational experience is rooted in the concept of servant leadership that follows the example of Christ. This is incorporated into the perspectives and values of the School of Education, equipping you to impact the next generation with kindness and excellence.

Trevecca’s Master of Arts in teaching program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and meets the rigorous national standards for education preparation established by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
