Nana and Poppaw’s Great Homecoming Adventure – from Don Hastings

| Alumni

It’s common knowledge that molding and influencing children must start at a very early age. So that’s exactly what my wife and I decided to do with our grandchildren. As each one turned 7, they joined us in on our annual Homecoming adventure to our Alma Mater, Trevecca Nazarene University, in Nashville.

We had very few rules— chocolate cookies for breakfast, no set bedtime, and having fun was a must. Our goal for this trip was to encourage them to attend Trevecca when it came time to choosing a college.

As they continued coming year after year, they began to feel at home on the campus. They got acquainted with professors and the university president hung out with them to make sure they’d keep returning to the Hill as long as he was president.

Next month—November 6-9— the grandchildren will literally come from around the world to take part in our annual Trevecca Homecoming adventure. If you ask them about the yearly trek, not only would they have countless memories and stories to share, but they would tell you it’s something they talk about throughout the year.

As next school year approaches, our two oldest grandchildren will finally be enrolling at Trevecca as freshmen. Our prayer is that all 6 of our grandkids will attend our Alma Mater. We’re continuing to mold and influence their lives, and it’s working! Someone’s influencing your family too. Is it you?

We'll see you at Homecoming as we embark on our next Nana and Poppaw’s Great Homecoming Adventure.

May all who come behind us find us faithful!
