The Master’s Tournament

I like to play golf—operative word—play. Since I have the attention span of a gnat I have trouble watching golf tournaments on television; but, I did tune in to watch Jordan Spieth run the table to win the latest Masters Tournament. Very impressive! What’s more impressive is his calm and mature demeanor given the fact that he’s 21-years-old. His dad taught him at an early age to set a goal and pursue it, and I think that’s great fatherly advice.

I began to think about the fact that as a follower of Christ, each day we play in the “Master’s Tournament” called life. There are times in my daily life rounds I feel like I’m playing from a fairway sand trap with one hand tied behind my back. Stay with me now, but my Caddie is always behind me, or sometimes ahead of me giving me direction for the next shot. Always listen to the Divine Ca

ddie. While early guidance came from Godly parents and a wonderful Nazarene church, I continued to learn to set goals and pursue them from caddies (professors) at Trevecca Nazarene University who always had my best in mind. As proud alumni of Trevecca we’ll be guiding those around us, those to whom we are the caddies. We’ll guide them to love the Lord and love Trevecca. As in golf, the basics are crucial, no better place to “hone your skills” than at Trevecca.

Speaking of golf, don’t forget about the Alumni Golf Tournament on May 21, at Henry Horton State Park in Chapel Hill, TN. Contact the Office of Alumni Engagement at alumni@trevecca.edu for more information.

Before that, I’ll see you at Trevecca’s graduation ceremonies on Friday and Saturday, May 8 and 9.

Great things are happening “On the Hill.” Stay tuned for future announcements about how you can be involved.

If you have any comments or suggestions for the Alumni Board that will improve our wonderful Alumni Association, please let me know. Contact me at don@donhastings.net or call me at 850-602-7230.

May all who come behind us find us faithful!
