Trevecca students will soon be able to spend a semester studying in Boston, thanks to the University’s partnership with Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass.
Trevecca and Eastern officials recently announced the semester exchange program, which will allow Trevecca students the opportunity to live and learn in world-famous Boston, all without transferring. Located just minutes from downtown, Eastern is just a five-minute walk to the beach and a 10-minute walk to the T, Boston’s subway system.
It’s an opportunity Dr. Tom Middendorf, Trevecca’s associate provost and dean of academic affairs, is excited to offer students.
“A quality education isn’t solely what happens in the classroom,” he said. “It is being exposed to different cultures, people, places and practices. Students have the opportunity to travel to a completely different region of our country to meet new faculty, visit a new city and immerse themselves in a different culture for an entire semester. Boston and Nashville are thriving cities, and I believe they have compelling stories to tell. This should be exciting for any student who is seeking an adventure!”
Officials from both institutions say the semester exchange program will offer values and benefits that bolster students’ educational experience.
“The impact on this type of rich contextual learning is not only a great experience now, but an experience that [students] will draw from personally and professionally for years to come,” said Jeffrey Kirksey, Eastern’s vice president for student development and retention and dean of students. “It is also a great way to demonstrate to future employers your commitment to learning and working in diverse context.”
Middendorf agreed, encouraging students to prayerfully consider taking advantage of the opportunity and citing cost as a benefit. While participating in the semester exchange program, students will maintain home tuition rates and financial aid packages. Room and board fees will also stay the same. Students will be responsible for any travel costs.
Middendorf also stressed “the richness of visiting and learning from another college campus.”
“Students will have the opportunity to meet new friends, learn from other skilled faculty and worship with a new community,” Middendorf said. “The body of Christ is bigger than our local community, and it draws us closer when we experience this with another campus culture”
To be eligible for the program, students must be in good academic and social standing and have completed two full-time semesters at the University. They can take up to 18 semester hours at Eastern. The experience is available to the first 10 students to apply and receive approval each semester.
Trevecca’s pre-registration process kicks off on Oct. 16. Students interested in taking part in the semester exchange program must contact the cross registration officer at their institution. Students will be responsible for meeting all pre-registration deadlines and should consult with their home academic advisers about course options while studying at Eastern.
