Speaker at the Laborers in the Vineyard ministry summit

This summer Trevecca hosted the first training sessions for Laborers in the Vineyard, a special training program for new pastors.

In 2020, Trevecca was awarded a $1 million grant by the Lilly Endowment to establish the ministry. The program is designed to aid pastors – particularly pastors of small congregations, diverse congregations and new church plants – who are in their first five years of service.

On July 21, the first cohort gathered on Trevecca’s campus for “Intensive 2022,” a time of worship, teaching and fellowship. Their courses examined topics like Sabbath and the greatest needs for pastors who are starting out in ministry. This four-day event kicked off a yearlong program of mentoring.

When the grant was awarded, Dr. Tim Green, dean of the Millard Reed School of Theology and Christian Ministry, described the school’s role in the new program.

“Through the development of Laborers in the Vineyard…the School of Theology and Christian Ministry continues to commit to and engage in the life and growth of the very center of Christian ministry.”

The next cohort will begin with another intensive in summer 2023.
