Sadie Robertson speaks in chapel

February 21, 2018

Sadie Robertson spoke in Trevecca’s chapel service yesterday, urging students to embrace the fullness of God’s character, stepping out in faith when He calls despite fear.

“When God calls you, He’s already considered who you are,” Robertson said. “And He’s still calling you—not because of who you are but because of who He is. In your weakness, He is your strength.”

Acknowledging the fear and anxiety students may face, Robertson urged them to remember who God is and trust Him because who He is shapes who we are and defines our true purpose.

“There are two things you are. You can’t change it; it’s simply who you are,” she said. “You are a child, and you are loved. Period. Can’t change it. Didn’t do anything to earn it. It’s just who you are because a good, good Father has adopted you into a kingdom.”

True confidence, Robertson said, comes from trusting in God, not ourselves.

“Hebrews 10:35 says ‘So then do not forget the confident trust you have in the Lord for that will be richly rewarded,’” she said. “Look to God, and you will find so much more because everything of this world will fade. Find rest in Him, and it’s forever.”

The topic fits with Robertson’s most recent book Live Fearless: A Call to Power, Passion and Purpose, released earlier this month. Robertson has described the book’s theme as a message for her generation: “You don’t have to be held back by fear, anxiety, or loneliness anymore.”

The “Duck Dynasty” star, who first visited Trevecca’s campus in 2013 and spoke at TNT@TNU, is now the author of several books, including a New York Times bestseller, Live Original. Robertson launched a tour of the same name in 2016 and has since traveled the country sharing her message, which is meant to encourage teens and young adults to embrace the full potential of who God created them to be and calls them to live.

Last fall, Trevecca and Trevecca Online served as one of the main sponsors of Robertson’s Live Original Tour. The 16-date tour included stops in Tennessee, Atlanta and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

In addition to writing and touring, Robertson also appeared on season 18 of “Dancing with the Stars,” as well as movies God’s Not Dead 2 and I’m Not Ashamed.
