Odom Caps Trojan Softball Career with Elite Honors

For Trevecca softball standout MaKray Odom, closing out a history-making career as a student athlete came with some hefty accolades.

For the third time in her career, Odom is an NFCA Division II All-American. She is also a third-team All-American in NCAA Division II. On top of that, the shortstop from Dickson, Tennessee, became only the third Trojan ever to receive the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Female Collegiate Achievement Award.

Odom finished the season as the active career leader in hits across all three levels of NCAA softball. She finished second in career stolen bases among active NCAA Division II players. On the way to setting those marks during her 200-game career, Odom also broke a number of Trevecca and GMAC records. For her career, she hit .483 with a .505 on-base percentage; she scored 192 runs and drove in 96 runs; she had 347 hits with only 12 career strikeouts; and she stole 130 bases and was caught just 12 times. She also had two separate 33-game hitting streaks.

Odom is a two-time GMAC Player of the Year, and in three separate seasons she was a finalist for the NFCA Division II National Player of the Year.

Her achievements extended to the classroom as well. Odom made the 2020 and 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-American softball teams, becoming the first Trojan athlete in any sport to earn the honor twice with a first-team selection in 2020. Odom received the Leadership in Education Award in 2019 and 2020 from Trevecca's Department of Education, and she also won the Outstanding Student Teacher Award in 2020. Trevecca’s alumni group selected her for the 2020 Student Alumni as well. She earned her undergraduate degree in elementary education and already possesses a Master of Organizational Leadership degree.

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference annually selects one male and one female outgoing senior student-athlete to be honored with the Collegiate Achievement Award, based on an individual's academic excellence, athletic achievements, character, leadership, and engagement within the community and conference. It stands as the highest honor a Great Midwest student-athlete can receive. Odom is the first Trojan since Ben Moroney (2016-2017) of the Trevecca cross country/track & field teams to win the award. In the inaugural season of the award (2014-2015), Trevecca women's basketball standout Kaci Britt Bell was selected. 

NFCA All-Americans rank in the top one percent of student-athletes. They must be nominated by their head coach, voted on by the coaches in their region or division, and ultimately selected by All-American committee members.
