Trevecca: A Year in Review

With undergraduate students set to return to campus this weekend and cohort after cohort starting programs in Trevecca’s School of Graduate and Continuing Studies, 2017 is already well underway.

But before we left 2016 behind, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at the Trevecca stories, photos and videos you liked the most in the year that was. With no further ado, the top 10!

We may sound a little like a broken record, but we’re proud that Trevecca has continued to break the University’s all-time enrollment record time and time again. 2016 was no different, with more than 3,000 students—undergraduate, non-traditional and graduate—trusting Trevecca for their education. It’s a story we want to keep telling for years to come!

2. Snowball Fight!

Winter weather was responsible for a few late starts and canceled classes in 2016, including a January snowstorm that turned campus into a winter wonderland. Who can forget the Great Snowball Fight of 2016? If you have, watch this video—which was featured on The Weather Channel!

 3. TNT @ TNU

We look forward to TNT each spring, and apparently, so do you. This post about the fun-filled event was one of our 2016 fan favorites. And just so you can plan, TNT 2017 is set for March 30-April 2.

4. Pomp and Circumstance

Graduation is the culmination of the academic year, and 2016 was no different. Relive that beautiful spring day by checking out this photo album, one of your favorite posts from 2016.

Chaplaincy-transition-story.jpg5. Transitions

In 2016, the University welcomed Shawna Songer Gaines as the new university chaplain as Dr. Tim Green began a year-long transition from that position. Trevecca is deeply grateful for Dr. Green’s 25 years as the university chaplain and thankful for his dedication to shaping students theologically in his role as dean of the Millard Reed School of Theology and Christian Ministry.

6. Welcome Home

All School Praise and Worship is a special time for the campus community to come together before the fall semester and focus on Christ. This year, the University began a new tradition, with the freshman class marching through the Millard Reed Bell Tower to be welcomed by current students, faculty and staff. It’s a walk they’ll repeat in a few years on graduation day. Our video of that moment was one of your favorite posts of 2016!

7. Back-to-School

Back-to-school activities are a perennial fan favorite, and 2016 was no exception. Especially when Dr. Boone got so excited that students were back on campus that he couldn’t contain it.

8. What a Wonderful World

Trevecca’s campus is beautiful year-round, but fall is a truly special time. The vibrant trees, crisp fall air and crunchy leaves are spectacular. Pictures sometimes don’t do it justice, but apparently this one—from October 2016—did.

9. A Diverse Story

Some stories simply capture your attention and your heart. That was the case with this story, which announced Brodrick Thomas as Trevecca’s first coordinator of student engagement and diversity. Like us, you were inspired by Thomas’ dedication and passion for his work.

10. Alumni Accolades

We count it a privilege to be able to share the stories of Trevecca’s alumni through the website, Treveccan and social media. Catching up with Kevin Dyson—who holds two master’s degrees from Trevecca and is currently working on his doctorate—was a joy.
