How'd you get involved in this tragedy?

| Alumni

Recently the Lord gave our family an incredible gift in the form of a little person. His name is Emmett Lee Hastings. Emmett has a bigger story than what I’ll delve into here, but ask me about it someday—I’d love to share it with you.

The title of this blog is a question Emmett’s doctors posed to us as his adoptive family—“How’d you get involved in this tragedy?” In other words, why in the world would anyone who already has four children choose to take on another, especially one with medical challenges?

How did we get involved in this tragedy? When one chooses to follow Jesus, the Christ, the Risen One, the Redeemer, the Savior, the Great I AM, the Son of God, and The Great Physician there are no strangers, there are no outcasts, there are no orphans of God. So the Hastings family begins a new chapter in the life of our family.

Emmett Lee Hastings, welcome to the world, welcome to the family. We will teach you to love the Lord, love your fellow man, love the Church, and love Trevecca Nazarene University Class of 2037. You are now eligible for Nana and Poppaw’s Great Trevecca Adventure. Hang in there, Emmett; the adventure starts when you are seven years old.

Trevecca Nazarene University was the place where I learned to be… rather than to seem. I’m grateful for that legacy which influenced me to love others well, like Emmett.

The Alumni Association would love to hear from you. We want to host regional gatherings to tell your stories. Contact the Office of Alumni Engagement (615-248-1238) or myself (don@donhastngs.net / 850-602-7230).

May all who come behind us find us faithful. #PurplePride
