At this year’s Trevecca graduation I saw persons whose dream had come true.

Fulfilling those dreams and completing a degree was the result of a dream AND having a team around them, a team of special people—parents, church family, friends, employers, teachers, and others.

At Trevecca those teams expanded to include many from the Trevecca faculty, administration, and staff—persons who played special roles in helping the dream come true.

As I stepped to the podium to welcome these new graduates into the Alumni Association, I saw many big smiles, tears of joy, and sighs of relief. I was blessed to see these dreams come true.

I have a dream for these Trevecca graduates of 2013. I dream that they will take their rightful places on the Alumni team of Trevecca. As they go from Trevecca to the four corners of the world, I pray they will become active Trevecca alumni, who will support Trevecca by praying for it, by giving back financially to Trevecca’s mission, and by taking part in homecoming and alumni gatherings.

Also I dream these new graduates will become a vital part of other folks’ lives. Perhaps their caring and influence would help others join the Trevecca team—and fulfill more dreams at Trevecca.

Encourage their dreams and join their team.

To me, that would be a DREAM COME TRUE.

Jennifer Neely was featured on FOX 17′s 9 PM newscast Tuesday night, April 9. To view the FOX 17 article and watch the clip, click on the image above. Jennifer, Trevecca’s Coordinator of Sophomore Year Programs, was interviewed regarding Trevecca’s participation in the End It Movement – an organization dedicated to raising awareness about the issue of human trafficking around the globe. The FOX segment also highlighted a local church’s involvement and provided some of the shocking human trafficking statistics.

National Weather Day at Trevecca

This past Saturday, TNU hosted the National Weather Day at TNU. About 550 participants from all over Tennessee were present. Huge success!

TN Homeland Security field agents were present, along with local weather station personalities, and representatives from the National Weather Center in Nashville. Severe Weather Spotter classes were given, along with many break-out sessions concerning Weather related topics.

Project Homeless

Three Trevecca nursing students (pictured below- L to R on top row- Erin Cox, Samantha Stanhope, Jenna Taylor) recently volunteered to assist with the fifth annual Project Homeless Connect.

These TNU students and other Belmont nursing students participated in the event, assisting with health screenings provided by the Mental Health Cooperative, a clinical partner of Belmont University School of Nursing.

Sponsored by the Metropolitan Nashville Homelessness Commission, the one-day, one-stop event included access to a broad range of services, including medical and foot care, legal services, employment assistance, pet care, food, toiletries and more. More than 5,100 people have been helped since Project Homeless Connect started in Nashville in 2008.

Trevecca Launches New Mobile App

Trevecca Nazarene University released a new mobile app to provide information about the university to its students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the public.

The app, available for iPhone and Android, provides the latest Trevecca news, events, athletic information, video and photo multimedia, key phone numbers, social media integration, admissions information, and even a campus tour. The university anticipates that the two most popular features among students will be the link to Self Service (where students can access online registration, chapel attendance, and more) and the latest Trevecca videos from YouTube.

The university developed the app using Straxis Technology, a company whose mission is to help colleges and universities develop and deploy customized apps for mobile devices.

The Trevecca Nazarene University app is free and available through the Apple iTunes and Google Play stores.

Dave Matthews Band member Jeff Coffin and M’utet to appear at Trevecca

Internationally known saxophonist, bandleader, composer, and educator, Jeff Coffin and his band M’utet will perform at Trevecca on Tuesday, February 26 at 7 PM with Trevecca’s Lab Band I and TNaz Jazz—Trevecca Jazz Ensemble. Coffin has won three Grammy Awards with Bela Fleck & the Flecktones and has been part of the Dave Matthews Band since 2008. The event will be in the convocation center of the Boone Business Building and is free and open to the public.

Prior to the Tuesday performance, Coffin and M’utet will present “Creativity in Music” on Monday, February 25 at 10 AM. Following that event, Trevecca music professor Matt Murdock will join Coffin and M’utet to present “The Early Years of Jazz/Rock Fusion.” Both sessions will be held in the convocation center of the Boone Business Building on Trevecca’s campus, and both are open to music educators, high school and college musicians, and the community.

Members of M’utet are as follows: Felix Pastorius, playing the electric bass; Bill Fanning, playing trumpet and space trumpet; Chris “the Pianimator” Walters, playing keys; and special guest Roy “Futureman” Wooten, playing drums.

The Tuesday night event is partnered with W.O. Smith Nashville Community Music School with donations going towards their music programs. The Monday sessions will be sponsored by Yamaha Corporation in conjunction with their world-wide 125th Anniversary.

“Four C’s Determine Value”

When I was a student at Nazarene Theological Seminary, I worked in a jewelry store and learned about the “4 C’s,” the standards for determining the value of a precious stone. As an alumnus of Trevecca, I realize that Trevecca also utilized a 4-C standard to bring out the very best in its students.

C #1—Christ-centered focus. Christ has been at the center of Trevecca from its founding days—in programs, chapel services, outreach ministries, planning, etc.

C #2—Challenging fields of study. Trevecca has exceptional, dedicated, and demanding faculty, who require students to study in order to graduate. Trevecca grads successfully compete in their fields of study or vocations.

C #3—Community atmosphere. Having the University, Trevecca Community Church of the Nazarene, and Trevecca Towers in close proximity gives students exposure to persons of many backgrounds, interests, and ages—and teaches students wonderful life lessons..

C #4—Caring attitude. Trevecca students are taught to care for others, to make a difference in the lives of others.

Trevecca’s 4 C’s have been bringing out the best in its students for 113 years! Please remember Trevecca in your prayers, your financial giving, and your efforts to send students to Trevecca.

National Launch of Called to the Fire

The national launch of Called to the Fire, a book by alumnus Chet Bush, will take place in chapel at Trevecca on February 19, 2013, at 10 AM, in the courts area of Trevecca Community Church of the Nazarene. Bush’s book recounts the true story of Dr. Charles Johnson, an African-American minister in Mississippi during the tumultuous 1960s. When three civil rights activists were murdered in the town where he was a pastor, Johnson was thrust into this national tragedy and was the sole African-American witness called to testify in the trial known as the “Mississippi Burning” case. With themes of love, conviction, adversity, and redemption, Johnson’s story concludes with a shocking encounter between one of the murderers and him. The event is free and open to the public.

Trevecca’s chapel services now streamed live

On Wednesday, January 30, Trevecca began live streaming its chapel services to anyone who has computer access. The Office of the Chaplain and the University’s IT department has made it possible for anyone to “join” the congregation in the chapel services at Trevecca. Go to http://streaming.trevecca.edu to become part of the chapel service.

Trevecca’s chapel services take place weekly on the following schedule:

Tuesday and Thursdays—9:30 AM (CST)

Wednesday—10 AM (CST)

Tuesday and Thursday February chapel schedules for February are the following:

12 Special “I am second” chapel with a member of the Tennessee Titans speaking
