High school seniors: the application for the McClurkan Scholarship is open until October 25, 2019! What’s a McClurkan Scholar, you might ask? Hopefully, this blog can help answer your questions.

1. McClurkan Scholars are servant leaders.

The McClurkan Scholarship—a full-tuition scholarship, by the way—honors Trevecca’s founder, Rev. J.O. McClurkan. The words “He lived for others” are inscribed on his tombstone, and the scholarship created in his honor recognizes students who seek to do the same. “The core tenants of the McClurkan Scholars are leadership and service,” said Randy Kinder, director of new student financial aid. “Our McClurkan Scholars want to help make the world a better place through new and creative ways.

2. McClurkan Scholars are, well, scholars.

The name really says it all. You can’t be called a scholar without some academic prowess. McClurkan Scholars must have a 29 or higher composite score on the ACT (1340+ RSAT) and a 3.5 GPA or higher.

3. McClurkan Scholars are active in their communities.

McClurkan Scholars have served in their communities, taken part in extra-curricular activities and taken advantage of leadership opportunities in their high schools, communities and churches.  “Our past McClurkan Scholars have flown planes, written books, sang songs, feed the hungry, and helped to impact their world for Christ,” Kinder said. “They continue to be on the cutting edge in their areas of study, always pushing the bar forward while asking how they can help to positively impact the community around them.”

4. McClurkan Scholars pursue their goals.

To be considered for the McClurkan Scholarship, students have to apply. So, McClurkan Scholars are high-performing student leaders who believe in themselves and are willing to take the first step toward their future. Applications—which include an essay—are due October 26, 2018.

5. McClurkan Scholars can rock an interview.

The top applicants for the McClurkan Scholarship are invited to participate in Trevecca’s annual McClurkan Scholarship Day, which will be held on Nov. 9 this year. Candidates will get a chance to interact with other scholars, meet with professors in their field of study and tour campus. The highlight, though, is a chance to interview with deans and members of the President’s Cabinet for the McClurkan Scholarship. It’s your chance to shine, scholars!

6. McClurkan Scholars become part of an elite group.

If you’re selected to interview during McClurkan Scholarship Day, you become a McClurkan Scholar. While only two applicants will receive the scholarship, all McClurkan Scholars will receive recognition at graduation. “Our McClurkan Scholars are the best and brightest students at Trevecca,” said Holly Whitby, associate provost and dean of enrollment management. “This group of high-achieving, world-changing, get-it-done students help to impact every area of Trevecca and beyond.”
